Fairtrade Fortnight is different this year; first of all it is the 30th Anniversary so the Fairtrade Foundation have celebrated the anniversary by having it in September, when the first one was held rather than February or March.
We are all familiar with the Fairtrade logo (pictured above) and it isdisplayed on familiar items in the supermarkets, tea, coffee, cocoa, sugar and, of course, bananas. Buying fairly traded goods helps farmers and workers to have a better living and allows them to develop new skills, enables children to be educated, and the family to obtain healthcare.
This year the Fairtrade event in the parish is the CAFOD quiz on Friday 13 September in the Parish Centre. Fairtrade tea and coffee will be available and homemade Fairtrade biscuits.
Any donations from the refreshments will go to Transform Trade who enable farmers in Africa and South America to become fair trade. The donation to CAFOD is from the quiz as usual. Add a fairly traded item to your trolley if you can. Fai r t rade For tnight is f rom 9-22 September.
