Holy Week and Easter: Information and Logistics
Thank you once again to the communities of St Saviour and St Mary of the Angels for the response to the invitation to make the journey to Our Lady Star of the Sea this first Holy Week of our working and praying as one parish community. I want to thank, in advance, all those who are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that all is prepared: the music, flowers, sacristies, serving, readings, and stewarding.
Holy Thursday 14 April
Mass begins at 7pm, and following Mass, you are welcome to remain in Church to Watch at the Altar of Repose. The period of Watching will conclude with Night Prayerat 9pm. Remember: the apostles fell asleep, so please feel able to go home after the Mass and return later if you wish! Thank you to those who have volunteered to have their feet washed: please come forward when invited at the Mass, following the homily.
Good Friday 15 April
If you have been down to Our Lady Star of the Sea, you will have seen a large banner giving notice that the car park is closed on Good Friday. This is to ensure that the use of the car park is given over to those coming to Good Friday Services. We have Stations of the Cross led by children both at Our Lady Star of the Sea and St Mary of the Angels, and both at 10am.
The Solemn Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion takes place at the traditional time of 3pm. Large numbers are expected: if you can offer a lift to someone, or you know of anyone who is housebound or infirm and would appreciate a lift, please reach out to them.
Holy Saturday 16 April
Unusually, we have a wedding service on Holy Saturday at 1pm. Please pray for Sean and for Hannah as they exchange vows and begin their married life together. Our prayerful congratulations to them and their families! My thanks to the florists from the Flower Club and the team who will prepare the Church for the Easter Vigil. At St Saviour, first at 10am, and again at 11am, there is the Święconka Easter Basket Blessing, a tradition in countries of central and eastern Europe. All are welcome!
The Easter Vigil 16 April
The Vigil begins in the grounds of Our Lady Star of the Sea at 8.30pm with the blessing of the fire and the Paschal Candle.
Easter Sunday 17 April
The four Sunday Masses across Our Lady Star of the Sea at 9am and 11am, and St Mary of the Angels at 9am and St Saviour at 11am are as normal. Benediction at Our Lady Star of the Sea at 4pm as usual, too.
Divine Mercy Sunday 24 April
