A New Initiative for Holy Week 2024
I am always grateful to Martin and to Francis for their generosity, week in, week out, providing the music for the celebration of our three Masses. They volunteer in this role and I always want them to know, on behalf of the parish, how appreciative we are. And we are grateful, too for Pam at St Saviour for all she did over many years, together with the Choir there. It was both the recent memory of the Choir at St Saviour and the Children’s Choir at Our Lady Star of the Sea that prompted an idea for this coming Holy Week.

A ‘Scratch Choir’: An Invitation
A few months ago, Vicky Millard became a Catholic. Vicky is a Mum, and a teacher at St Saviour Catholic Primary School, and a gifted musician, too. I asked if she might take a lead on forming - for Holy Week - a ‘scratch Choir’, that means, a Choir made up of anyone who would like to join, who rehearse once or twice before singing together. Thankfully, Vicky said ‘Yes’!

The invitation then is to anyone who would like to be involved: perhaps you enjoy singing at Mass, perhaps you have sung in Choirs in previous parishes or even in our own. Any age and any ability is welcome. There is a rehearsal ahead of the Masses and Liturgies of Holy Week and you would be invited to sing at all of them, if you are able.

Tuesday of Holy Week 26 March
Our Lady Star of the Sea
Rehearsal 6.30pm

This rehearsals will share with the group the music chosen for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and The Easter Vigil and allow us to learn (or re-learn) the Missa Brevis written by Francis Roscoe, that we hope to use for Holy Thursday and The Easter Vigil.

All welcome! It will be a wonderful addition to our worship of God to have a Choir leading the singing during Holy Week and a great way to focus especially on the music and prayer of the Mass by being involved in this Choir. Please feel able to be involved, even if you cannot come to the rehearsal, even if you cannot make all three Masses or Liturgies across Holy Thursday, Good Friday and The Easter Vigil.

My thanks to Martin, Francis, and Vicky!
