I was grateful for the vigilance of a parishioner last week at St Mary of the Angels, Hooton for noticing the serious degradation and corrosion of some of the masonry in the Stanley Chapel which houses the grave of the Stanleys. The windowsills and the surrounding stone work, together with the source of the damp itself, were examined this past Friday by an expert architect and conservator to see what remedial works may need to be costed and instructed. You will recall that as a Listed Building we have a statutory duty to maintain and repair to conservation-level standards any works at St Mary of the Angels.
